Johannesburg, 16 September 2024 – Volvo South Africa officially launched its latest fully electric SUV, the EX30, on Thursday at Victoria Yards, Johannesburg. With 150 pre-orders already placed and 52 units registered in August, the EX30 is set to build on the success of its predecessor, the XC40 Recharge, which was South Africa’s best-selling electric vehicle in 2023.
Strong Demand for Electric Vehicles
Speaking at the media launch, Volvo SA Managing Director Greg Maruszewski welcomed the positive response to the new model. He commented on the promising future for electric vehicles in South Africa, following the government’s support for EV production.
“These are good news for the production of electric vehicles in SA,” said Maruszewski.
The EX30 is Volvo’s fastest-accelerating production car to date, reaching 0-100km/h in just 3.6 seconds, and has the smallest CO2 footprint of any Volvo car.
Trim Levels and Features
The EX30 comes in five different models, offering a range of features to suit different customer needs:
EX30 Advanced Technology and Design
Inside, the EX30 offers a minimalistic design with no dashboard buttons or instrument panel. Instead, a 12.3-inch central touchscreen tablet powered by Android handles all functions, with wireless updates.
Physical controls are limited to window and central locking switches and audio controls on the steering wheel.
Volvo EX30 Pricing and Warranty
The EX30 comes with a comprehensive 5-year/100,000km warranty and maintenance plan, along with 5-year/unlimited mileage roadside assistance. South Africa is one of the first countries where the EX30 is available, highlighting Volvo’s commitment to growing its EV market presence locally.
