“New Chapter for South Africa’s Automotive manufacturing industry”
Chery has officially opened its manufacturing facility in Rosslyn, Pretoria, marking a significant milestone in the company’s African growth strategy and signalling a new chapter for South Africa’s automotive manufacturing industry.
The Rosslyn facility positions Chery among the growing number of global automotive manufacturers producing vehicles locally, while strengthening South Africa’s reputation as a leading automotive production and export hub on the African continent.
The newly inaugurated plant is expected to serve as Chery’s regional manufacturing base, supporting local vehicle assembly, supplier development, skills transfer and future exports into African and selected international markets. The investment reflects the company’s long-term confidence in South Africa’s industrial capability and its strategic importance within Chery’s global expansion plans.
“This investment represents far more than the opening of a manufacturing plant,” Chery executives said during the launch. “It demonstrates our commitment to South Africa, our confidence in local talent and our ambition to build sustainable partnerships that contribute to economic growth while delivering world-class vehicles to customers across the region.”speaking with S.A BUZZ
Industry leaders have welcomed the investment, noting that the project is expected to create thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities while stimulating growth across the automotive value chain, including component manufacturing, logistics, engineering and supplier development.
The Rosslyn facility is expected to manufacture several models for the local and regional markets as production ramps up over the coming years. The company has also committed to increasing localisation by working closely with South African component manufacturers to strengthen domestic supply chains.
Government representatives described the investment as an important vote of confidence in South Africa’s manufacturing sector, highlighting its contribution to industrialisation, technology transfer, workforce development and export competitiveness.
The opening comes as Chery continues its rapid expansion across South Africa, where the brand has established itself as one of the country’s fastest-growing automotive manufacturers through its growing SUV portfolio, advanced safety technologies and customer-focused innovation.
Beyond manufacturing, the Rosslyn investment is expected to support research, technical training and future mobility initiatives, positioning South Africa as an important regional centre for Chery’s operations across Africa.
As the automotive industry transitions toward smarter, cleaner and more connected mobility solutions, Chery’s investment reinforces South Africa’s role in the global automotive landscape while creating new opportunities for economic development, skills enhancement and industrial growth.follow more on @CherySA and @sabuzz99 https://sabuzz.co.za
