Rose and Oaks Media’s film Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight, directed by Embeth Davidtz, will premiere at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival, showcasing South African talent on a global stage.

Johannesburg, 12 September 2024—Rose and Oaks Media is proud to announce that their latest feature film, Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight, will be showcased at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in Canada. Known for celebrating innovative filmmaking, TIFF runs from September 5th to 15th, 2024, with the film’s official screening set for September 12th.

From Telluride to Toronto

The film first premiered at the Telluride International Film Festival, where it received high praise. Critics described the movie as a “harsh, intense character drama,” reflecting director Embeth Davidtz’s deep connection to her South African roots. Based on Alexandra Fuller’s New York Times best-selling memoir, Don’t Let’s Go to the Dogs Tonight tells the poignant story of Bobo, played by newcomer Lexi Venter, alongside Embeth Davidtz as Nicola, Bobo’s grief-stricken mother. The cast includes Zikhona Bali, Fumani N. Shilubana, Rob van Vuuren, and Anina Reed.

Director Embeth Davidtz expressed her appreciation for the production, stating: “Making this film has been a gratifying experience. The rich history of Southern Africa brought this story to life, and our talented cast and crew’s dedication was incredible.”
