The Black Coffee Foundation has been on roll to dedicate children’s eye-testing programme aimed at improving access to eye care for learners across South Africa.
The Gift of Sight by Black Coffee initiative officially begins on Monday, 09 February 2026 , where over 700 school children will receive comprehensive vision screening during a school uniform handover drive by the foundation. Children identified as needing further care will receive full eye examinations and free spectacles at a subsequent visit.
The project seeks to address the often-overlooked role that eyesight plays in academic performance and overall child development. Early identification of vision issues can significantly improve a child’s ability to read, write, concentrate, and engage both inside and outside the classroom.
The programme will move from province to province, testing learners at schools throughout the country. The eye-testing project is presented in partnership with Tania Noach Optometrist T/A Vision Works Benmore, Morningside Eye, the South African Optometric Association (SAOA), and EyeCare4Kids, with generous sponsorship from Love Maison33 and JHB VIP.
Beyond screening and testing, the initiative ensures that children who require advanced treatment or surgery are referred to specialists and supported through partner organisations capable of providing further clinical intervention.”Good vision is essential for children to participate fully in school and in life,” says Lungie Maphumulo, CEO of the Black Coffee Foundation…”Something as simple as a missed vision problem can make learning harder, affect confidence, and limit a child’s potential. Through the Gift of Sight by Black Coffee project, we want to ensure that eyesight is not a barrier to opportunity….speaking with S.A BUZZ
“Sharing similar sentiment, Tania Noach added, “Our partnership with the Black Coffee Foundation allows us to bring vital eye-care directly into schools, where it is needed most. Early detection is one of the most important aspects of eye health. With Gift of Sight by Black Coffee, we are able to identify concerns sooner and provide proper care so that children can thrive…speaking with S.A BUZZ…
